Roo Taylor (b. 2003) is a Baltimore-based artist originally from Denver, Colorado. She earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and is currently a resident artist at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore. Working primarily with high-flow acrylic paint, Taylor uses transparency and layered color to create abstract landscapes and figures. Her work explores the interplay between the natural world and human relationships, exploring the emotional and atmospheric depth through fluid, natural spaces. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries across Baltimore, Denver and New York, as well as internationally at the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art in Japan. In 2025, her solo exhibition Akin was presented at MICA’s Gateway Gallery.

Using light and color as metaphors for energy, my work explores the through lines between the natural world and human connections. Born from a deep appreciation for transparency and hue, each work reflects on how closeness thrives not in spite of our differences, but because of them. The bonds we form through love and place are not isolated, but part of a greater, interconnected system.

Relationships that shape us often mirror those present in ecosystems. This connection between figure and landscape and between feeling and form, describes place as a kind of portraiture. By amplifying color within the figure and land, I invite viewers to experience emotional resonance as something inherently alive, layered, and luminous.

My process often utilizes transparent washes of acrylic paint to heighten vibrancy and depth. Whether depicting a person or a landscape, I aim to capture the energy that exists between things, the unseen threads that bind us to each other and the world around us.
