Roo Taylor (b. 2003) is a Baltimore-based artist originally from Denver, Colorado. She earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and is currently a resident artist at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore. Working primarily with high-flow acrylic paint, Taylor uses transparency and layered color to create abstract landscapes and figures. Her work explores the interplay between the natural world and human relationships, exploring the emotional and atmospheric depth through fluid, natural spaces. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries across Baltimore, Denver and New York, as well as internationally at the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art in Japan. In 2025, her solo exhibition Akin was presented at MICA’s Gateway Gallery.

Using light and color as metaphors for energy, my work traces the throughlines between the natural world and human connection. Rooted in a deep reverence for transparency and hue, each piece is meant to hum, quietly alive, holding its own internal pulse. I explore the bonds we form through love and place, not as isolated moments, but as parts of a vast, interconnected system. The relationships that shape us echo the intricate patterns of the natural world, from the rippling stones of the valley I grew up in to the twisting branches of a canopy overhead.

The connection between feeling and form describes place as a kind of portraiture. By utilizing vibrant colors and transparent washes, I invite viewers to experience emotional resonance as something inherently natural, alive, layered, and luminous. My process often employs transparent washes of acrylic paint to heighten vibrancy and depth. Whether depicting a person or a landscape, I aim to capture the energy that exists between things. The unseen threads that bind us to each other and the world around us.
